Grant Recipients for 2025

The following Grants were announced during the Annual General Meeting of the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation held in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on April 26, 2025:

Health & Safety

Safe Families Canada – The Battlefords
Provide isolated families in crisis with a caring, compassionate community, keeping children safe.

PA Catholic Family Services, CFS Prince Albert
A Domestic violence support group for women survivors who require assistance to leave the relationship.

Spina bifida $ Hydrocephalus Association
Purchase balance support wheels for wheelchairs, allowing participation in sporting events and travel on rougher terrain.

Lloydminster & Area Brain Injury Society
Provide free programs, services, + referrals for persons who have sustained brain injuries

Micah Missions – Saskatoon
Assisting individuals who have committed sexual offences and leading them to responsible and constructive lives.

St. Athanasius UK Catholic Church – Regina
Support for Ukrainian & Russian Immigrants in the area

Youth Bible Camps

Luseland Bible Camp
Funding to assist in providing secure and clean accommodations for youth at the camp

Rex Mundi Camp Society – Rose Valley
Providing secure, clean and healthy facilities at summer camps for youth

St. Michael’s Youth Camp – Madge Lake
Providing access to Yorkton Schools’ spring activities and summer camps to boys and girls in the area

St. John Bosco Youth Camp Society – Choiceland
Funding to provide summer camp access to boys and girls in the area.

Kenosee Boys & Girls Youth Camp – Kenosee Lake
Funding is needed to assist in providing boys and girls with access to summer camp.

Camp Monahan – Katepwa Lake Qu’Appelle Valley
Providing summer camping to disadvantaged children regardless of their socioeconomic status.

Saskatoon Youth Development Complex – Blackstrap
Provision of security and safety with funding for social and recreational activities.

Youth Support Groups

AMPO Outdoor Education Program – Melville
Camp at Madge Lake for 140 students to learn survival, first aid and other skills. 51st year of operation

Cloth for Kids – Grandora
Group meets each week, making 100+ quilts each year for needy children in the Saskatoon area.

Greater Saskatoon Cath. Schools
Support for High School Byzantine student retreat, materials, speakers and honorariums

Mother Teresa Middle School, Regina
Providing education for troubled students to be able to fit back into the regular school system

My Gen. Youth Rally – Archdiocese of Regina
Annual youth rally for high school students, creating opportunities for them to grow in their faith.

Creative Kids Saskatchewan
Provides youth & kids ages 4-19 to participate in arts, theatre, dance, music & other cultural activities throughout Saskatchewan

Columbus Bosco Homes are Located Near Aberdeen
Farm School helps troubled students reorient themselves back to the Saskatoon Catholic School system.

Meadow Lake Home Plate Inc.
Supplying safe accommodations and necessities for the homeless.

Indigenous/nonindigenous Relations

Circle Project Assn Inc. Regina
Provide Indigenous children access to a positive cultural environment and activities

Turning Point Youth Ministries, Meadow Lake
The Youth Centre provides youth with food, a safe space, teaching life skills and sharing of the gospel.

Saskatchewan Catholic School Board, Saskatoon
Produce a film to enhance Indigenous Education, centred around Truth & Reconciliation

St Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Saskatoon
Fund the Hospitality Cart at the Hospice at Glengarda. End of Life care.

Santa Maria Foundation Inc., Regina
Long-term Senior Home updating beds in residents’ rooms

Watson New Horizons Ministry
Purchase of an AED heart unit for the building used by Seniors and family gatherings

St. Joseph’s Park and Integrated Facility – Macklin
Updating the Park, which borders the Health Centre, with a Shrine and Stations of the Cross

Saskatoon Pregnancy Options
To provide care, social connection, prenatal/parenting education and supplies.

Saskatchewan Pro Life Assn
Support for the Annual March for Life and placing pro-life highway signs throughout Saskatchewan.

Regina Pregnancy Options
Provide a place to receive care, social connection, prenatal/parenting education and supplies.

Northeast Pregnancy Options Melfort/Humboldt
Provide a place to receive care, social connection, prenatal/parenting education and supplies

Catholic Evangelical Ministries

Rebuilding Catholic Culture, Saskatoon
Hosting a series of lectures involving young adults to understand and participate in their faith education.

Face to Face Ministries Saskatoon
Empower the next generation of Catholic Leaders in their faith at retreats and seminars in Saskatchewan

Leah MacDonald Perreault – Writer & Speaker – Swift Current
Speaking around western Saskatchewan, sharing about the Catholic faith, domestic violence and healing.

Deacon Rick Lucas “Called & Gifted” with the PA Diocese
Holding workshops, reaching people in homes, parishes and reaching those who may be lapsed Catholics.

Evangelization Ministry is executed through preaching and discipleship. Working with men’s & ladies’ groups,

Catholic Gap Year. A 9-month program focused on Personal Formation, Christian Life & Catholic Studies

Offers Catholic leadership and support for University youth

Conventions

Holy Trinity Catholic School District, Moose Jaw
Assisting Presenters/Speakers at the SCSBA fall AGM and Convention

Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division – Yorkton
Assisting speakers at the Saskatchewan Catholic School Board Association Spring Convention.

Seminarian Support – Vocations to the priesthood

Providing support for Saskatchewan-based Seminarians’ education to the Priesthood. Total of over $63,000 for this year.

Bursaries to various Universities & Colleges

To qualify for any of the following Bursaries, you must be a Knight, spouse, child or grandchild of a Knight.

Catholic University Bursaries
Three $1,000.00 bursaries are presented to St. Peter’s College, St Thomas More and Campion College Universities.

Campion Knights Bursary – Regina
One $1000.00 bursary is presented to a Mother Teresa Middle School graduate student who is accepted to Campion College University.

St. Therese Bursary – Bruno
One $1,000 Bursary for a student attending the 9-month “Gap Year Program”

Poly Tech Bursaries
4 – $1,000.00 bursaries are presented to qualifying students at Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Prince Albert & Regina. One per campus

Contingency Fund

Assisting in partnership with Councils for individuals experiencing a disaster of emergent nature. Such as health, fire, etc., within the following calendar year.

The Most Reverend Albert Thévenot, M. Afr., former Bishop of the Diocese of Prince Albert, passed away on April 13, 2025, at 79. Born on November 6, 1945, in Treherne, Manitoba, Bishop Thévenot dedicated his life to missionary service, pastoral care, and evangelization.

Bishop Thévenot’s journey began when he entered the Society of the Missionaries of Africa in 1964. His commitment to his faith and community was evident as he made his first vows in 1967 and his perpetual profession in 1975. He was ordained to the priesthood on August 2, 1980.

Throughout his life, Bishop Thévenot served in various capacities, both in Canada and abroad. His missionary work took him to Tanzania, where he taught at the Minor Seminary of Katoke and served as an associate pastor, later at the Tabora Student Centre. His dedication to promoting missionary vocations brought him back to Canada, where he continued his ministry in Western Canada.

In 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Prince Albert, a role he embraced with devotion until his resignation in 2021. His episcopal motto, “Ut Vitam Habeant” (“That they may have life”) from John 10:10, reflected his unwavering commitment to bringing life and hope to those he served.

Bishop Thévenot’s contributions extended beyond his diocese. He was actively involved in national dialogue and evangelization efforts within the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. His work on the Anglican/Catholic Bishops’ Dialogue and the Commission for Evangelization and Catechesis showcased his dedication to fostering unity and understanding among different faith communities.

His legacy is one of compassion, service, and unwavering faith. Bishop Thévenot’s life was a testament to his belief in the power of love and community. He touched countless lives through his pastoral care, missionary work, and commitment to evangelization.

These are only some of his accomplishments. As we remember Bishop Thévenot, we celebrate a life lived in service to others and God. His memory will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in his footsteps.

Bishop Thévenot also served as Chaplain of the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus State Council from 2014 to 2016 and as Chaplain of the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation from 2022 to 2025.

Funeral liturgies will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Prince Albert.  There will be a Viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 24th , 2025.  This will be followed by a Funeral Vigil at 7:00 pm.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 25th, 2025, at 11:00 am, followed by a reception at Ecole St. Mary High School.

The Sask K of C Charitable Foundation will accept memorial donations and credit them to the Knights of Columbus Vocations Endowment Fund. A Memorial Certificate acknowledging the donor’s name will be forwarded to Bishop Thevenot’s family in Somerset, Manitoba.

May his soul rest in peace.
