We have now received $3,520.00 in Fire Relief donations.

We have now received $3,520.00 in Fire Relief donations.

To: All State Board Members, District Deputies, Grand Knights, Agency Department, and K of C Membership of Saskatchewan.

We have received a request from the Councils asking that we consider developing a process for raising funds to assist those affected by the fires in the north. Sask K of C Charitable Foundation is going to take the lead in a Forest Fire Relief project for Saskatchewan Residents

We will immediately begin accepting donations earmarked for fire relief. We will pool the money to make one donation on behalf of the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus. The Sask K of C Charitable Foundation will match the first $ 5,000.00 received from Councils and their members. Donations will be accepted through the Foundation office until September 30, 2025.

The decision on how we may distribute has not been finalized. We will begin by approaching the Catholic Diocesan offices that may have parishes affected to see if there is a need. Another option is to forward the funds to the Red Cross so it may be matched by the Canadian government.

Shawn Scherr will be the Project Chair for this initiative. If you have any questions or suggestions, he can be reached by phone at 306 221 1056 or by email at scherr@saskkofc.foundation

Cheques should be made payable to the Sask K of C Charitable Foundation. Payments can also be made by e-transfer payments@saskkofc.foundation or by credit card. Mark all payments “Forest Relief Fund.”

Announcing the Board of Directors for Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation

During the recent K of C State Convention held in April in Yorkton, the Saskatchewan K of C Charitable Foundation held its Annual General Meeting, chaired by President Harvey Granatier.

At this AGM, all Grand Knights and attendees were made aware of the recent events and accomplishments of the Foundation. Also, there was an election of new Directors as well as the reappointment of Directors previously appointed by State Council.

Since the Saskatchewan K of C Charitable Foundation is the Foundation of all Knights in the province, we recognize that not all Councils and Grand Knights were able to attend the Convention. The Foundation believes that it is important that all Knights in the province should know who the Directors are who represent them. Accordingly, the Directors are:

Harvey Granatier – President & CEO
Father Greg Elder – Chaplain
Mervyn Welter – Vice President (PSD)
Wayne Matt – Treasurer
Tom Fortosky – Secretary
Marte Nogot – Director (State Deputy)
Shawn Scherr – Director
Marvin DeSchryver – Director (PSD)
Andy Praksis – Director
Larry Packet – Director (PSD)
Brian Schatz – Director (PSD)
Ric Devon – Director
Al Dion – Director
Gerry Gieni – Executive Secretary
Peter Folk – IT Manager

Sask K of C Charitable Foundation University & College Bursaries

Sask K of C Charitable Foundation University & College Bursaries

It’s that time of year when students across Saskatchewan are enrolling in post-secondary institutions.
The Sask K of C Charitable Foundation is proud to offer bursaries to eligible students attending many of our province’s universities and colleges.

To qualify, students must be enrolled in one of the institutions listed below. Additionally, the student must be a Knight of Columbus, or have a father and/or grandfather who is a member of the Knights of Columbus in Saskatchewan.

In partnership with the Adrienne & Mervyn Welter Education Endowment, we offer three bursaries of $1,000 each to students enrolled at the following Catholic universities:

  • Campion College, Regina
  • St. Peter’s College, Muenster
  • St. Thomas More College, Saskatoon

Additionally, the Sask K of C Charitable Foundation offers one $1,000 bursary to a student enrolled at one of the following institutions:

  • St. Therese College, Bruno
  • Saskatchewan Polytechnic – Moose Jaw
  • Saskatchewan Polytechnic – Prince Albert
  • Saskatchewan Polytechnic – Regina
  • Saskatchewan Polytechnic – Saskatoon

Each bursary program is managed and administered directly through the respective university or college. Application forms can be found on each individual’s website.

Our role in the approval process is solely to confirm that the student, their father, or grandfather is a Knight of Columbus. Once confirmed, we are notified of the successful applicant, and the funds are forwarded to the institution for presentation on our behalf.

We strongly encourage each Council to inform its members about these bursaries. In recent years, we’ve had instances where an insufficient number of applications were received to award all available bursaries. This is unfortunate and may be due to a lack of awareness among our membership.

If your student encounters any issues with the application process, please get in touch with our office. We will do our best to assist you.
