Proudly Supporting Indigenous Education

Proudly Supporting Indigenous Education Through Truth & Reconciliation

The Bishops of Saskatchewan have proclaimed May 10 to May 17 Catholic Education Week.  The Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association (SCSBA) states that “Catholic Education Week is a meaningful opportunity to highlight and celebrate the distinctiveness of Catholic education across Saskatchewan’s eight publicly funded Catholic school divisions”.

The Sask K of C Charitable Foundation is proud to support initiatives that advance Indigenous Relations through education. Through its Indigenous and Indigenous Relations Endowment Fund, the Foundation invests in meaningful projects that promote understanding, respect, and dialogue across communities.

One example of this commitment is the Foundation’s support for the SCSBA in producing a new educational film that enhances Indigenous learning and reflects the calls of Truth and Reconciliation.  This new video has been released to coincide with Catholic Education Week.

The film produced by the SCSBA serves as an important educational resource for students, educators, and the wider community. Through storytelling and reflection, sharing Indigenous perspectives and histories, it helps deepen understanding of Indigenous education and encourages meaningful dialogue rooted in respect, dignity, and reconciliation.

This project reflects a shared commitment to listening, learning, and walking together in a spirit of respect, understanding, and faith.

The Foundation recognizes that reconciliation is an ongoing journey—one that requires collaboration, education, and sustained investment. By supporting initiatives like this film, the Sask K of C Charitable Foundation aims to contribute to lasting impact in schools, parishes, and communities throughout the province.

“Our goal is to support meaningful initiatives that build understanding and strengthen relationships,” said President Harvey Granatier, “Through our Indigenous and Indigenous Relations Endowment, we are proud to help make projects like this possible.”

Truth and Reconciliation is not a single event or moment—it is a journey. For Catholic organizations and schools, that journey involves honest reflection, acknowledgement of past harms, and a sincere commitment to education that honours Indigenous voices, histories, and lived experiences.

At the Sask K of C Charitable Foundation, our mission of “Charity” includes supporting initiatives that strengthen Catholic education while responding to the needs of our communities. Supporting this film aligns closely with our faith and principles — charity, unity, and fraternity—and our belief that education plays a crucial role in reconciliation.

Catholic schools have a unique responsibility to educate not only minds, but hearts. By supporting projects like this film, we help ensure that students are equipped with both historical knowledge and compassionate understanding as they grow into future leaders.

We invite you to watch the film and reflect on the messages it shares:

We commend the SCSBA for their leadership and vision in bringing this project to life. Meaningful reconciliation requires collaboration, humility, and courage—and this film is a strong example of what can be achieved when organizations work together for the common good.

As we continue on the path of enhancing Indigenous Relations, may initiatives like this inspire learning, compassion, and a deeper commitment to walking together in faith and respect.

We also would like you to “stay tuned” for our September Communications where the weekly newsletter articles and website posts will feature how the Foundation is proudly supports programs, services and initiatives that enhance Indigenous relations through Catholic Education, truth and reconciliation, amplifying Indigenous voices and nurturing partnerships and shared commitment.
