Supporting New Beginnings

Supporting New Beginnings: How the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus and CAPC Are Helping the Maqsood Family

A meaningful gesture of community support recently took place in Saskatoon through a partnership between Canadian Aid to Persecuted Christians (CAPC) and the Sask K of C Charitable Foundation. John Marshall, Recorder for CAPC, visited the Saskatoon apartment of a newly arrived refugee family—father Dilshad Maqsood, his wife Ruby, and their son Abneer—to present a generous $1,000 gift on behalf of the Board.

The Financial Realities of Resettlement

Resettling in a new country brings both hope and immediate financial challenges.

This modest remaining balance must cover essential household expenses, including:

  • Electricity utilities (SaskPower bill)
  • Communication costs (cell phone and Wi-Fi services)
  • Local transportation (monthly bus passes and ride tickets)
  • Food and incidental daily necessities

Direct Relief for Grocery Expenses

Given these tight monthly margins, the Foundation’s gift provides immediate relief. The $1,000 donation is designated to assist the family directly with their ongoing monthly food and grocery expenses. Upon receiving the cheque at their home, the family expressed deep gratitude and was left virtually at a loss for words by the Knights’ timely generosity.

A Commitment to Community Impact

This collaborative outreach highlights the ongoing dedication of both CAPC and the Sask K of C Charitable Foundation in serving vulnerable families. Reflecting on his recent attendance at the Knights’ Charity Gala, John Marshall commended the Board for their tremendous charitable work supporting worthy causes across the province. Thanks to this practical support, the Maqsood family has gained valuable assistance as they continue building their new life in Saskatchewan.
