Grant Presented to Regina Catholic Schools

Regina Catholic School division is currently working on a project to enhance communication abilities for at-risk children experiencing Autism Spectrum Disorder, or other developmental delays, impacting speech & language skills.

The project, Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) includes the use of iPads and a specialized app called Prolqu02go, which allows individuals with communication difficulties to press visual buttons on the iPad to speak. Without this device, many of the children supported by AAC have difficulty expressing even basic wants and needs. This leads to social isolation, inability to engage in academic opportunities, and increases vulnerability. As you can imagine, many non-individuals—speaking become very frustrated and their behaviour is difficult to redirect. Within the Regina Separate Schools, there are currently 24 students on the waitlist for a device.

The K of C Regina Chapter raised $3300.00 which was presented to the Regina Catholic School AAC department earlier.  Sask K of C Charitable Foundation had agreed to match the Regina Chapter donation providing $6,600.00 total donation for the purchase of these valued communication support units.  The photo shows the presentation by the Sask K of C Charitable Foundation.
